The figure shows an empty flower vase of height 48 cm. It is made from 2 containers. The top container is in the form of a cuboid which has a square base side 5 cm and height 34 cm. The bottom container is in the form of a cube of 14 cm. 3.05 litres of water is poured into the empty vase. What is the height of the water level from the base of the vase? (1 litre = 1000 cm³)
Volume of the bottom container
= 14 x 14 x 14
= 2744 cm³

3.05 ℓ = 3050 cm³

Volume of water in the top container
= 3050 - 2744
= 306 cm³ 

Base area of the top container
= 5 x 5
= 25 cm²

Height of water level in the top container
= 306 ÷ 25
= 12.24 cm

Height of water level from the base of vase
= 14 + 12.24
= 26.24 cm
