PSLEThe graphs show the total number of leaflets machines R and S printed from the start. Both machines started printing at the same time.
- How many more leaflets did S print than R in 4 minutes?
- Both machines did not change their rates of printing throughout. When R had printed 150 leaflets, how many leaflets had S printed?
(a)
Machine R:
10 min → 60
Machine S:
10 min → 100
Machine S more than Machine R:
10 min → 100 - 60 = 40
1 min → 40 ÷ 10 = 4
4 min → 4 x 4 = 16
Number of leaflets that Machine S printed more than Machine R in 4 min = 16
(b)
Machine R:
150 leaflets → 25 min
Machine S:
10 min → 100
1 min → 100 ÷ 10 = 10
25 min → 25 x 10 = 250
Number of leaflets that Machine S had printed when Machine R had printed 150 leaflets = 250
Answer(s): (a) 16; (b) 250
