Jean had two streamers of the same length. She cut the first streamer into equal parts of length 30 cm and to each part she tied 2 gold heart cutouts. After that, she cut the second streamer into equal parts of length 40 cm and to each part she tied 4 blue heart cutouts. When she finished tying, she counted that there were 8 more blue heart cutouts than gold heart cutouts. How many heart cutouts were there altogether?

Number of sets of 2 gold heart cutouts in a length of 120 cm
= 120 ÷ 30
= 4

Number of gold heart cutouts in a length of 120 cm
= 4 x 2
= 8

Number of sets of 4 blue heart cutouts in a length of 120 cm
= 120 ÷ 40
= 3

Number of blue heart cutouts in a length of 120 cm
= 3 x 4
= 12

Extra number of blue heart cutouts in a length of 120 cm
= 12 - 8
= 4

Number of sets of heart cutouts
= 8 ÷ 4
= 2

Total number of heart cutouts in one set of 120 cm of gold balloons and one set of 120 cm of blue balloons
= 8 + 12
= 20

Total number of heart cutouts of the two streamers
= 2 x 20
= 40
