An equal number of chocolate bars were distributed to 5 boys and 7 girls. Each boy then gave
23 of her share of chocolate bars to the girls. As a result, each girl received 10 more chocolate bars.
- How many chocolate bars did each boy have left?
- Find the total number of chocolate bars each girl had after receiving more chocolate bars from the boys.
(a)
Number of chocolate bars that the boys gave to the girls
= 7 x 10
= 70
Number of chocolate bars that each boy gave to the girls
= 70 ÷ 5
= 14
Number of chocolate bars that each boy had at first = 3 u
Number of chocolate bars that each boy gave away = 2 u
2 u = 14
1 u = 14 ÷ 2 = 7
Number of chocolate bars that each boy left
= 3 u - 2 u
= 1 u
= 7
(b)
Number of chocolate bars that each girl had in the end
= 3 u + 10
= 3 x 7 + 10
= 21 + 10
= 31
Answer(s): (a) 7; (b) 31
