PSLE Rachel and Raeann each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making sandwiches. The same mass of dough was used for each sandwich. Rachel made 37 sandwiches and had 305 g of dough left. Raeann made 17 sandwiches and had 1.005 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each sandwich?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such sandwiches can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of sandwiches made by Rachel and Raeann
= 37 - 17
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.005 kg = 1.005 x 1000 = 1005 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Raeann and Rachel
= 1005 - 305
= 700 g
Mass of 20 sandwiches = 700 g
Mass of 1 sandwich
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1005 + 305
= 1310 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1310 ÷ 35
= 37 r 15
Number of sandwiches = 37
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 37
