PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2074 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 277 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of ST.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of ST
= (277 - 51 - 51 - 46 - 46) ÷ 2
= 83 ÷ 2
= 41.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 46 x 17
= 782 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 41.5 x 17
= 705.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2074 - 782 - 705.5
= 586.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 586.5 ÷ 17
= 34.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 277 - (2 x 34.5)
= 277 - 69
= 208 m
Answer(s): (a) 41.5 m
2; (b) 208 m
