15 of the mangoes and
12 of the kiwis were sold, there were a total of 20 mangoes and kiwis now. How many mangoes were there at first?
|
Mangoes |
Kiwis |
Total |
Before |
5 u |
2 p |
28 |
Change |
- 1 u |
- 1 p |
- 8 |
After |
4 u |
1 p |
20 |
Total number of mangoes and kiwis sold
= 28 - 20
= 8
4 u + 1 p = 20
1 p = 20 - 4 u --- (1)
1 u + 1 p = 8
1 p = 8 - 1 u --- (2)
(2) = (1)
8 - 1 u = 20 - 4 u
4 u - 1 u = 20 - 8
3 u = 12
1 u = 12 ÷ 3 = 4
Number of mangoes at first
= 5 u
= 5 x 4
= 20
Answer(s): 20
