There were 75 pomegranates and oranges in a stall at first. After
17 of the pomegranates and
12 of the oranges were sold, there were a total of 55 pomegranates and oranges now. How many pomegranates are there now?
|
Pomegranates |
Oranges |
Total |
Before |
7 u |
2 p |
75 |
Change |
- 1 u |
- 1 p |
- 20 |
After |
6 u |
1 p |
55 |
Total number of pomegranates and oranges sold
= 75 - 55
= 20
6 u + 1 p = 55
1 p = 55 - 6 u --- (1)
1 u + 1 p = 20
1 p = 20 - 1 u --- (2)
(2) = (1)
20 - 1 u = 55 - 6 u
6 u - 1 u = 55 - 20
5 u = 35
1 u = 35 ÷ 5 = 7
Number of pomegranates now
= 6 u
= 6 x 7
= 42
Answer(s): 42
