There were 39 mangoes and kiwis in a stall at first. After
15 of the mangoes and
12 of the kiwis were sold, there were a total of 27 mangoes and kiwis now. How many mangoes were there at first?
|
Mangoes |
Kiwis |
Total |
Before |
5 u |
2 p |
39 |
Change |
- 1 u |
- 1 p |
- 12 |
After |
4 u |
1 p |
27 |
Total number of mangoes and kiwis sold
= 39 - 27
= 12
4 u + 1 p = 27
1 p = 27 - 4 u --- (1)
1 u + 1 p = 12
1 p = 12 - 1 u --- (2)
(2) = (1)
12 - 1 u = 27 - 4 u
4 u - 1 u = 27 - 12
3 u = 15
1 u = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
Number of mangoes at first
= 5 u
= 5 x 5
= 25
Answer(s): 25
