There were 88 pomegranates and lemons in a stall at first. After
16 of the pomegranates and
12 of the lemons were sold, there were a total of 70 pomegranates and lemons now. How many pomegranates are there now?
|
Pomegranates |
Lemons |
Total |
Before |
6 u |
2 p |
88 |
Change |
- 1 u |
- 1 p |
- 18 |
After |
5 u |
1 p |
70 |
Total number of pomegranates and lemons sold
= 88 - 70
= 18
5 u + 1 p = 70
1 p = 70 - 5 u --- (1)
1 u + 1 p = 18
1 p = 18 - 1 u --- (2)
(2) = (1)
18 - 1 u = 70 - 5 u
5 u - 1 u = 70 - 18
4 u = 52
1 u = 52 ÷ 4 = 13
Number of pomegranates now
= 5 u
= 5 x 13
= 65
Answer(s): 65
