Let 1 B be 1 blue bag.
Let 1 V be 1 violet bag.
3 u = 12 B
1 u = 4 B --- (1)
1 u = 12 V --- (2)
(1) = (2)
4 B = 12 V
1 B = 12 ÷ 4 = 3 V
1 B + 2 V = 15 --- (3)
Substitute 1 B = 3 V into (3).
3 V + 2 V = 15
5 V = 15
1 V = 15 ÷ 5 = 3

1 u = 12 V
1 u = 12 x 3 = 36
Number of candy sticks that Wendy had at first
= 3 u + 1 u
= 4 u
