Let 1 B be 1 blue bag.
Let 1 V be 1 violet bag.
3 u = 18 B
1 u = 6 B --- (1)
1 u = 12 V --- (2)
(1) = (2)
6 B = 12 V
1 B = 12 ÷ 6 = 2 V
1 B + 4 V = 48 --- (3)
Substitute 1 B = 2 V into (3).
2 V + 4 V = 48
6 V = 48
1 V = 48 ÷ 6 = 8

1 u = 12 V
1 u = 12 x 8 = 96
Number of candy sticks that Wendy had at first
= 3 u + 1 u
= 4 u
