Let 1 B be 1 blue bag.
Let 1 V be 1 violet bag.
5 u = 15 B
1 u = 3 B --- (1)
1 u = 15 V --- (2)
(1) = (2)
3 B = 15 V
1 B = 15 ÷ 3 = 5 V
1 B + 4 V = 72 --- (3)
Substitute 1 B = 5 V into (3).
5 V + 4 V = 72
9 V = 72
1 V = 72 ÷ 9 = 8

1 u = 15 V
1 u = 15 x 8 = 120
Number of candy sticks that Emily had at first
= 5 u + 1 u
= 6 u
= 6 x 120
