56 of the lollipops into 30 blue bags and the rest into 12 violet bags. There were 42 lollipops altogether in 1 blue and 4 violet bags. How many lollipops did Anna have at first?

Let 1 B be 1 blue bag.
Let 1 V be 1 violet bag.
5 u = 30 B
1 u = 6 B --- (1)
1 u = 12 V --- (2)
(1) = (2)
6 B = 12 V
1 B = 12 ÷ 6 = 2 V
1 B + 4 V = 42 --- (3)
Substitute 1 B = 2 V into (3).
2 V + 4 V = 42
6 V = 42
1 V = 42 ÷ 6 = 7

1 u = 12 V
1 u = 12 x 7 = 84
Number of lollipops that Anna had at first
= 5 u + 1 u
= 6 u
= 6 x 84
= 504
