45 of the chocolate bars into 20 blue bags and the rest into 25 violet bags. There were 36 chocolate bars altogether in 1 blue and 4 violet bags. How many chocolate bars did Fiona have at first?

Let 1 B be 1 blue bag.
Let 1 V be 1 violet bag.
4 u = 20 B
1 u = 5 B --- (1)
1 u = 25 V --- (2)
(1) = (2)
5 B = 25 V
1 B = 25 ÷ 5 = 5 V
1 B + 4 V = 36 --- (3)
Substitute 1 B = 5 V into (3).
5 V + 4 V = 36
9 V = 36
1 V = 36 ÷ 9 = 4

1 u = 25 V
1 u = 25 x 4 = 100
Number of chocolate bars that Fiona had at first
= 4 u + 1 u
= 5 u
= 5 x 100
= 500
