45 of the chocolate bars into 8 blue bags and the rest into 18 violet bags. There were 33 chocolate bars altogether in 1 blue and 2 violet bags. How many chocolate bars did Kimberly have at first?

Let 1 B be 1 blue bag.
Let 1 V be 1 violet bag.
4 u = 8 B
1 u = 2 B --- (1)
1 u = 18 V --- (2)
(1) = (2)
2 B = 18 V
1 B = 18 ÷ 2 = 9 V
1 B + 2 V = 33 --- (3)
Substitute 1 B = 9 V into (3).
9 V + 2 V = 33
11 V = 33
1 V = 33 ÷ 11 = 3

1 u = 18 V
1 u = 18 x 3 = 54
Number of chocolate bars that Kimberly had at first
= 4 u + 1 u
= 5 u
= 5 x 54
