A stallholder had the same number of starfruits, chikoos and mangosteens at first. After 38 mangosteens, some starfruits and chikoos were set aside, there were 118 fruits left. 5 u |

5 u - 14 |
118 |
Total number of fruits in the end
= 5 u + 1 u + 5 u - 14
= 11 u - 14
11 u - 14 = 118
11 u = 118 + 14
11 u = 132
1 u = 132 ÷ 11 = 12
Number of mangosteens at first
= 5 u - 14 + 38
= 5 x 12 - 14 + 38
= 60 - 14 + 38
= 84
The number of chikoos and mangosteens at first was the same.
Number of chikoos set aside
= 84 - 1 u
= 84 - 12
= 72
