Joelle had two streamers of the same length. She cut the first streamer into equal parts of length 60 cm and to each part she tied 2 silver paper cranes. After that, she cut the second streamer into equal parts of length 90 cm and to each part she tied 5 white paper cranes. When she finished tying, she counted that there were 12 more white paper cranes than silver paper cranes. How many paper cranes were there altogether?

Number of equal parts	180 ÷ 60 = 3	180 ÷ 90 = 2

LCM of 60 and 90 = 180

Number of sets of 2 silver paper cranes in a length of 180 cm
= 180 ÷ 60
= 3

Number of silver paper cranes in a length of 180 cm
= 3 x 2
= 6

Number of sets of 5 white paper cranes in a length of 180 cm
= 180 ÷ 90
= 2

Number of white paper cranes in a length of 180 cm
= 2 x 5
= 10

Extra number of white paper cranes in a length of 180 cm
= 10 - 6
= 4

Number of sets of paper cranes
= 12 ÷ 4
= 3

Total number of paper cranes in one set of 180 cm of silver balloons and one set of 180 cm of white balloons
= 6 + 10
= 16

Total number of paper cranes of the two streamers
= 3 x 16
= 48
