PSLEAlbert had 2.6 m of rope. He used some of it to make the figure as shown.
- How much of the rope did Andy use to make the figure? Leave your answer in the simplest form in terms of t.
- If t = 18, how much of the rope was not used to make the figure? Leave your answer in meters.
(a)
Total length of rope used
= t + t + t + (3t - 7) + (t + 13)
= t + t + t + 3t + t - 7 + 13
= (7 t + 6) cm
(b)
1 m = 100 cm
2.6 m = 260 cm
Total length of rope used if t = 18
= 7 t + 6
= 7(18) + 6
= 126 + 6
= 132 cm
Total length of rope not used
= 260 - 132
= 128 cm
1 cm = 0.01 m
128 cm = 1.28 m
Answer(s): (a) (7t + 6) cm; (b) 1.28 m
