PSLENick had 3.3 m of rope. He used some of it to make the figure as shown.
- How much of the rope did Andy use to make the figure? Leave your answer in the simplest form in terms of f.
- If f = 30, how much of the rope was not used to make the figure? Leave your answer in meters.
(a)
Total length of rope used
= f + f + f + (2f - 6) + (f + 13)
= f + f + f + 2f + f - 6 + 13
= (6 f + 7) cm
(b)
1 m = 100 cm
3.3 m = 330 cm
Total length of rope used if f = 30
= 6 f + 7
= 6(30) + 7
= 180 + 7
= 187 cm
Total length of rope not used
= 330 - 187
= 143 cm
1 cm = 0.01 m
143 cm = 1.43 m
Answer(s): (a) (6f + 7) cm; (b) 1.43 m
