PSLEGabriel had 3.3 m of rope. He used some of it to make the figure as shown.
- How much of the rope did Andy use to make the figure? Leave your answer in the simplest form in terms of h.
- If h = 26, how much of the rope was not used to make the figure? Leave your answer in meters.
(a)
Total length of rope used
= h + h + h + (2h - 6) + (h + 12)
= h + h + h + 2h + h - 6 + 12
= (6 h + 6) cm
(b)
1 m = 100 cm
3.3 m = 330 cm
Total length of rope used if h = 26
= 6 h + 6
= 6(26) + 6
= 156 + 6
= 162 cm
Total length of rope not used
= 330 - 162
= 168 cm
1 cm = 0.01 m
168 cm = 1.68 m
Answer(s): (a) (6h + 6) cm; (b) 1.68 m
