PSLECharlie had 2.7 m of rope. He used some of it to make the figure as shown.
- How much of the rope did Andy use to make the figure? Leave your answer in the simplest form in terms of m.
- If m = 10, how much of the rope was not used to make the figure? Leave your answer in meters.
(a)
Total length of rope used
= m + m + m + (3m - 5) + (m + 20)
= m + m + m + 3m + m - 5 + 20
= (7 m + 15) cm
(b)
1 m = 100 cm
2.7 m = 270 cm
Total length of rope used if m = 10
= 7 m + 15
= 7(10) + 15
= 70 + 15
= 85 cm
Total length of rope not used
= 270 - 85
= 185 cm
1 cm = 0.01 m
185 cm = 1.85 m
Answer(s): (a) (7m + 15) cm; (b) 1.85 m
