PSLEJeremy had 2.2 m of string. He used some of it to make the figure as shown.
- How much of the string did Andy use to make the figure? Leave your answer in the simplest form in terms of g.
- If g = 16, how much of the string was not used to make the figure? Leave your answer in meters.
(a)
Total length of string used
= g + g + g + (2g - 6) + (g + 13)
= g + g + g + 2g + g - 6 + 13
= (6 g + 7) cm
(b)
1 m = 100 cm
2.2 m = 220 cm
Total length of string used if g = 16
= 6 g + 7
= 6(16) + 7
= 96 + 7
= 103 cm
Total length of string not used
= 220 - 103
= 117 cm
1 cm = 0.01 m
117 cm = 1.17 m
Answer(s): (a) (6g + 7) cm; (b) 1.17 m
