PSLEPierre had 2.8 m of thread. He used some of it to make the figure as shown.
- How much of the thread did Andy use to make the figure? Leave your answer in the simplest form in terms of g.
- If g = 25, how much of the thread was not used to make the figure? Leave your answer in meters.
(a)
Total length of thread used
= g + g + g + (2g - 3) + (g + 16)
= g + g + g + 2g + g - 3 + 16
= (6 g + 13) cm
(b)
1 m = 100 cm
2.8 m = 280 cm
Total length of thread used if g = 25
= 6 g + 13
= 6(25) + 13
= 150 + 13
= 163 cm
Total length of thread not used
= 280 - 163
= 117 cm
1 cm = 0.01 m
117 cm = 1.17 m
Answer(s): (a) (6g + 13) cm; (b) 1.17 m
