The figure shows an empty flower vase of height 55 cm. It is made from 2 containers. The top container is in the form of a cuboid which has a square base side 5 cm and height 42 cm. The bottom container is in the form of a cube of 13 cm. 2.59 litres of water is poured into the empty vase. What is the height of the water level from the base of the vase? (1 litre = 1000 cm³)
Volume of the bottom container
= 13 x 13 x 13
= 2197 cm³

2.59 ℓ = 2590 cm³

Volume of water in the top container
= 2590 - 2197
= 393 cm³ 

Base area of the top container
= 5 x 5
= 25 cm²

Height of water level in the top container
= 393 ÷ 25
= 15.72 cm

Height of water level from the base of vase
= 13 + 15.72
= 28.72 cm
