The figure shows an empty flower vase of height 57 cm. It is made from 2 containers. The top container is in the form of a cuboid which has a square base side 4 cm and height 41 cm. The bottom container is in the form of a cube of 16 cm. 4.34 litres of water is poured into the empty vase. What is the height of the water level from the base of the vase? (1 litre = 1000 cm³)
Volume of the bottom container
= 16 x 16 x 16
= 4096 cm³

4.34 ℓ = 4340 cm³

Volume of water in the top container
= 4340 - 4096
= 244 cm³ 

Base area of the top container
= 4 x 4
= 16 cm²

Height of water level in the top container
= 244 ÷ 16
= 15.25 cm

Height of water level from the base of vase
= 16 + 15.25
= 31.25 cm
