The figure shows an empty flower vase of height 44 cm. It is made from 2 containers. The top container is in the form of a cuboid which has a square base side 6 cm and height 33 cm. The bottom container is in the form of a cube of 11 cm. 2.42 litres of water is poured into the empty vase. What is the height of the water level from the base of the vase? (1 litre = 1000 cm³)
Volume of the bottom container
= 11 x 11 x 11
= 1331 cm³

2.42 ℓ = 2420 cm³

Volume of water in the top container
= 2420 - 1331
= 1089 cm³ 

Base area of the top container
= 6 x 6
= 36 cm²

Height of water level in the top container
= 1089 ÷ 36
= 30.25 cm

Height of water level from the base of vase
= 11 + 30.25
= 41.25 cm
