A rectangular tank measuring 57 cm by 49 cm by 42 cm was filled with water to a height of 28 cm at first. After 7 completely filled identical jugs of water were poured into the tank, the new water level in the tank became 33 cm.

1. Find the volume of water in each jug in cubic centimetres.
2. How much more water would be needed to fill the tank completely? (Give your answer in litres.)

Difference in the height of the new and old water level
= 33 - 28
= 5 cm

Total volume of water added
= 49 x 57 x 5
= 13965 cm³ 

Volume of water in each jug
= 13965 ÷ 7
= 1995 cm³

(b)
Difference in the height of the tank and the water after 7 jugs of water were poured in
= 42 - 33
= 9 cm

Volume of water needed to fill the tank completely
= 49 x 57 x 9
= 25137 cm³

1000 cm³ = 1 ℓ
25137 cm³ = 25.137 ℓ
