Mrs Gabriel was preparing some pear syrup concentration for her friends. The amount of pear syrup initially used was
35 of the amount of water used. To make it more diluted, she decided to add 900 mℓ more water into the syrup drink such that
16 of the concentration was syrup. How much syrup did she use?
|
Syrup |
Water |
Before |
3x1 = 3 u |
5x1 = 5 u |
Change |
|
+ 900 mℓ |
After |
1x3 = 3 u |
5x3 = 15 u |
The volume of syrup at first and in the end remains unchanged. Make the volume of syrup the same. LCM of 1 and 3 is 3.
Volume of water that Mrs Gabriel added
= 15 u - 5 u
= 10 u
10 u = 900
1 u = 900 ÷ 10 = 90
Volume of syrup that Mrs Gabriel used
= 3 u
= 3 x 90
= 270 mℓ
Answer(s): 270 mℓ
