At a farm, there were
79 as many turkeys and cows. The farmer added another 20 turkeys but sold away 41 cows. In the end, there were 3 cows more than turkeys. How many turkeys and cows were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Cows |
Before |
7 u |
9 u |
Change |
+ 20 |
- 41 |
After |
7 u + 20 |
9 u - 41 |
If the farmer had another 3 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
9 u - 41 = 7 u + 20 + 3
9 u - 7 u = 23 + 41
2 u = 64
1 u = 64 ÷ 2 = 32
Number of cows and turkeys in the end
= 7 u + 20 + 9 u - 41
= 7 u + 9 u + 20 - 41
= 16 u - 21
= 16 x 32 - 21
= 491
