At a farm, there were
35 as many turkeys and geese. The farmer added another 27 turkeys but sold away 41 geese. In the end, there were 8 geese more than turkeys. How many turkeys and geese were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Geese |
Before |
3 u |
5 u |
Change |
+ 27 |
- 41 |
After |
3 u + 27 |
5 u - 41 |
If the farmer had another 8 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
5 u - 41 = 3 u + 27 + 8
5 u - 3 u = 35 + 41
2 u = 76
1 u = 76 ÷ 2 = 38
Number of geese and turkeys in the end
= 3 u + 27 + 5 u - 41
= 3 u + 5 u + 27 - 41
= 8 u - 14
= 8 x 38 - 14
= 290
