At a farm, there were
57 as many geese and sheep. The farmer added another 28 geese but sold away 36 sheep. In the end, there were 8 sheep more than geese. How many geese and sheep were there altogether in the end?
|
Geese |
Sheep |
Before |
5 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 28 |
- 36 |
After |
5 u + 28 |
7 u - 36 |
If the farmer had another 8 geese in the end, the number of geese and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 36 = 5 u + 28 + 8
7 u - 5 u = 36 + 36
2 u = 72
1 u = 72 ÷ 2 = 36
Number of sheep and geese in the end
= 5 u + 28 + 7 u - 36
= 5 u + 7 u + 28 - 36
= 12 u - 8
= 12 x 36 - 8
= 424
