35 as many cows and goats. The farmer added another 27 cows but sold away 35 goats. In the end, there were 4 goats more than cows. How many cows and goats were there altogether in the end?

If the farmer had another 4 cows in the end, the number of cows and (chickens) would be the same.
5 u - 35 = 3 u + 27 + 4
5 u - 3 u = 31 + 35

= 3 u + 27 + 5 u - 35
= 3 u + 5 u + 27 - 35
