At a farm, there were
411 as many pigs and ducks. The farmer added another 35 pigs but sold away 36 ducks. In the end, there were 6 ducks more than pigs. How many pigs and ducks were there altogether in the end?
|
Pigs |
Ducks |
Before |
4 u |
11 u |
Change |
+ 35 |
- 36 |
After |
4 u + 35 |
11 u - 36 |
If the farmer had another 6 pigs in the end, the number of pigs and (chickens) would be the same.
11 u - 36 = 4 u + 35 + 6
11 u - 4 u = 41 + 36
7 u = 77
1 u = 77 ÷ 7 = 11
Number of ducks and pigs in the end
= 4 u + 35 + 11 u - 36
= 4 u + 11 u + 35 - 36
= 15 u - 1
= 15 x 11 - 1
= 164
