At a farm, there were
37 as many sheep and goats. The farmer added another 24 sheep but sold away 42 goats. In the end, there were 6 goats more than sheep. How many sheep and goats were there altogether in the end?
|
Sheep |
Goats |
Before |
3 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 24 |
- 42 |
After |
3 u + 24 |
7 u - 42 |
If the farmer had another 6 sheep in the end, the number of sheep and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 42 = 3 u + 24 + 6
7 u - 3 u = 30 + 42
4 u = 72
1 u = 72 ÷ 4 = 18
Number of goats and sheep in the end
= 3 u + 24 + 7 u - 42
= 3 u + 7 u + 24 - 42
= 10 u - 18
= 10 x 18 - 18
= 162
Answer(s): 162
