At a farm, there were
611 as many turkeys and geese. The farmer added another 20 turkeys but sold away 48 geese. In the end, there were 2 geese more than turkeys. How many turkeys and geese were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Geese |
Before |
6 u |
11 u |
Change |
+ 20 |
- 48 |
After |
6 u + 20 |
11 u - 48 |
If the farmer had another 2 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
11 u - 48 = 6 u + 20 + 2
11 u - 6 u = 22 + 48
5 u = 70
1 u = 70 ÷ 5 = 14
Number of geese and turkeys in the end
= 6 u + 20 + 11 u - 48
= 6 u + 11 u + 20 - 48
= 17 u - 28
= 17 x 14 - 28
= 210
