At a farm, there were
310 as many pigs and goats. The farmer added another 24 pigs but sold away 37 goats. In the end, there were 2 goats more than pigs. How many pigs and goats were there altogether in the end?
|
Pigs |
Goats |
Before |
3 u |
10 u |
Change |
+ 24 |
- 37 |
After |
3 u + 24 |
10 u - 37 |
If the farmer had another 2 pigs in the end, the number of pigs and (chickens) would be the same.
10 u - 37 = 3 u + 24 + 2
10 u - 3 u = 26 + 37
7 u = 63
1 u = 63 ÷ 7 = 9
Number of goats and pigs in the end
= 3 u + 24 + 10 u - 37
= 3 u + 10 u + 24 - 37
= 13 u - 13
= 13 x 9 - 13
= 104
