At a farm, there were
611 as many chickens and pigs. The farmer added another 32 chickens but sold away 45 pigs. In the end, there were 8 pigs more than chickens. How many chickens and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Chickens |
Pigs |
Before |
6 u |
11 u |
Change |
+ 32 |
- 45 |
After |
6 u + 32 |
11 u - 45 |
If the farmer had another 8 chickens in the end, the number of chickens and (chickens) would be the same.
11 u - 45 = 6 u + 32 + 8
11 u - 6 u = 40 + 45
5 u = 85
1 u = 85 ÷ 5 = 17
Number of pigs and chickens in the end
= 6 u + 32 + 11 u - 45
= 6 u + 11 u + 32 - 45
= 17 u - 13
= 17 x 17 - 13
= 276
Answer(s): 276
