At a farm, there were
35 as many turkeys and ducks. The farmer added another 22 turkeys but sold away 41 ducks. In the end, there were 7 ducks more than turkeys. How many turkeys and ducks were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Ducks |
Before |
3 u |
5 u |
Change |
+ 22 |
- 41 |
After |
3 u + 22 |
5 u - 41 |
If the farmer had another 7 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
5 u - 41 = 3 u + 22 + 7
5 u - 3 u = 29 + 41
2 u = 70
1 u = 70 ÷ 2 = 35
Number of ducks and turkeys in the end
= 3 u + 22 + 5 u - 41
= 3 u + 5 u + 22 - 41
= 8 u - 19
= 8 x 35 - 19
= 261
Answer(s): 261
