At a farm, there were
47 as many pigs and sheep. The farmer added another 28 pigs but sold away 48 sheep. In the end, there were 2 sheep more than pigs. How many pigs and sheep were there altogether in the end?
|
Pigs |
Sheep |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 28 |
- 48 |
After |
4 u + 28 |
7 u - 48 |
If the farmer had another 2 pigs in the end, the number of pigs and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 48 = 4 u + 28 + 2
7 u - 4 u = 30 + 48
3 u = 78
1 u = 78 ÷ 3 = 26
Number of sheep and pigs in the end
= 4 u + 28 + 7 u - 48
= 4 u + 7 u + 28 - 48
= 11 u - 20
= 11 x 26 - 20
= 266
