At a farm, there were
38 as many cows and geese. The farmer added another 33 cows but sold away 50 geese. In the end, there were 7 geese more than cows. How many cows and geese were there altogether in the end?
|
Cows |
Geese |
Before |
3 u |
8 u |
Change |
+ 33 |
- 50 |
After |
3 u + 33 |
8 u - 50 |
If the farmer had another 7 cows in the end, the number of cows and (chickens) would be the same.
8 u - 50 = 3 u + 33 + 7
8 u - 3 u = 40 + 50
5 u = 90
1 u = 90 ÷ 5 = 18
Number of geese and cows in the end
= 3 u + 33 + 8 u - 50
= 3 u + 8 u + 33 - 50
= 11 u - 17
= 11 x 18 - 17
= 181
