At a farm, there were
47 as many geese and sheep. The farmer added another 31 geese but sold away 39 sheep. In the end, there were 2 sheep more than geese. How many geese and sheep were there altogether in the end?
|
Geese |
Sheep |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 31 |
- 39 |
After |
4 u + 31 |
7 u - 39 |
If the farmer had another 2 geese in the end, the number of geese and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 39 = 4 u + 31 + 2
7 u - 4 u = 33 + 39
3 u = 72
1 u = 72 ÷ 3 = 24
Number of sheep and geese in the end
= 4 u + 31 + 7 u - 39
= 4 u + 7 u + 31 - 39
= 11 u - 8
= 11 x 24 - 8
= 256
