At a farm, there were
58 as many ducks and turkeys. The farmer added another 34 ducks but sold away 49 turkeys. In the end, there were 7 turkeys more than ducks. How many ducks and turkeys were there altogether in the end?
|
Ducks |
Turkeys |
Before |
5 u |
8 u |
Change |
+ 34 |
- 49 |
After |
5 u + 34 |
8 u - 49 |
If the farmer had another 7 ducks in the end, the number of ducks and (chickens) would be the same.
8 u - 49 = 5 u + 34 + 7
8 u - 5 u = 41 + 49
3 u = 90
1 u = 90 ÷ 3 = 30
Number of turkeys and ducks in the end
= 5 u + 34 + 8 u - 49
= 5 u + 8 u + 34 - 49
= 13 u - 15
= 13 x 30 - 15
= 375
