At a farm, there were
58 as many turkeys and geese. The farmer added another 26 turkeys but sold away 48 geese. In the end, there were 7 geese more than turkeys. How many turkeys and geese were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Geese |
Before |
5 u |
8 u |
Change |
+ 26 |
- 48 |
After |
5 u + 26 |
8 u - 48 |
If the farmer had another 7 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
8 u - 48 = 5 u + 26 + 7
8 u - 5 u = 33 + 48
3 u = 81
1 u = 81 ÷ 3 = 27
Number of geese and turkeys in the end
= 5 u + 26 + 8 u - 48
= 5 u + 8 u + 26 - 48
= 13 u - 22
= 13 x 27 - 22
= 329
