At a farm, there were
79 as many chickens and pigs. The farmer added another 20 chickens but sold away 44 pigs. In the end, there were 6 pigs more than chickens. How many chickens and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Chickens |
Pigs |
Before |
7 u |
9 u |
Change |
+ 20 |
- 44 |
After |
7 u + 20 |
9 u - 44 |
If the farmer had another 6 chickens in the end, the number of chickens and (chickens) would be the same.
9 u - 44 = 7 u + 20 + 6
9 u - 7 u = 26 + 44
2 u = 70
1 u = 70 ÷ 2 = 35
Number of pigs and chickens in the end
= 7 u + 20 + 9 u - 44
= 7 u + 9 u + 20 - 44
= 16 u - 24
= 16 x 35 - 24
= 536
