At a farm, there were
58 as many sheep and goats. The farmer added another 30 sheep but sold away 44 goats. In the end, there were 7 goats more than sheep. How many sheep and goats were there altogether in the end?
|
Sheep |
Goats |
Before |
5 u |
8 u |
Change |
+ 30 |
- 44 |
After |
5 u + 30 |
8 u - 44 |
If the farmer had another 7 sheep in the end, the number of sheep and (chickens) would be the same.
8 u - 44 = 5 u + 30 + 7
8 u - 5 u = 37 + 44
3 u = 81
1 u = 81 ÷ 3 = 27
Number of goats and sheep in the end
= 5 u + 30 + 8 u - 44
= 5 u + 8 u + 30 - 44
= 13 u - 14
= 13 x 27 - 14
= 337
