At a farm, there were
35 as many goats and pigs. The farmer added another 30 goats but sold away 41 pigs. In the end, there were 7 pigs more than goats. How many goats and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Goats |
Pigs |
Before |
3 u |
5 u |
Change |
+ 30 |
- 41 |
After |
3 u + 30 |
5 u - 41 |
If the farmer had another 7 goats in the end, the number of goats and (chickens) would be the same.
5 u - 41 = 3 u + 30 + 7
5 u - 3 u = 37 + 41
2 u = 78
1 u = 78 ÷ 2 = 39
Number of pigs and goats in the end
= 3 u + 30 + 5 u - 41
= 3 u + 5 u + 30 - 41
= 8 u - 11
= 8 x 39 - 11
= 301
