At a farm, there were
57 as many cows and pigs. The farmer added another 35 cows but sold away 46 pigs. In the end, there were 9 pigs more than cows. How many cows and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Cows |
Pigs |
Before |
5 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 35 |
- 46 |
After |
5 u + 35 |
7 u - 46 |
If the farmer had another 9 cows in the end, the number of cows and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 46 = 5 u + 35 + 9
7 u - 5 u = 44 + 46
2 u = 90
1 u = 90 ÷ 2 = 45
Number of pigs and cows in the end
= 5 u + 35 + 7 u - 46
= 5 u + 7 u + 35 - 46
= 12 u - 11
= 12 x 45 - 11
= 529
Answer(s): 529
