At a farm, there were
57 as many ducks and cows. The farmer added another 24 ducks but sold away 43 cows. In the end, there were 3 cows more than ducks. How many ducks and cows were there altogether in the end?
|
Ducks |
Cows |
Before |
5 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 24 |
- 43 |
After |
5 u + 24 |
7 u - 43 |
If the farmer had another 3 ducks in the end, the number of ducks and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 43 = 5 u + 24 + 3
7 u - 5 u = 27 + 43
2 u = 70
1 u = 70 ÷ 2 = 35
Number of cows and ducks in the end
= 5 u + 24 + 7 u - 43
= 5 u + 7 u + 24 - 43
= 12 u - 19
= 12 x 35 - 19
= 401
Answer(s): 401
