At a farm, there were
411 as many cows and sheep. The farmer added another 24 cows but sold away 39 sheep. In the end, there were 7 sheep more than cows. How many cows and sheep were there altogether in the end?

Cows |
Sheep |
Before |
4 u |
11 u |
Change |
+ 24 |
- 39 |
After |
4 u + 24 |
11 u - 39 |
If the farmer had another 7 cows in the end, the number of cows and (chickens) would be the same.
11 u - 39 = 4 u + 24 + 7
11 u - 4 u = 31 + 39
7 u = 70
1 u = 70 ÷ 7 = 10
Number of sheep and cows in the end
= 4 u + 24 + 11 u - 39
= 4 u + 11 u + 24 - 39
= 15 u - 15
= 15 x 10 - 15
= 135
Answer(s): 135
